Porcelain Veneers 101
Porcelain veneers are little shells made of dental ceramic which serves to cover the front part of your teeth from being visible. When the porcelain veneer is in place, even disfigured teeth look perfect, and they are exceptionally natural in appearance. Veneers are partially translucent which adds to their look and color.
The Dental Problems They Can Treat
Dr. Wang can use porcelain veneers for a variety of dental issues, including
- Cracks in teeth
- Presence of gaps between teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Problems with crooked teeth
- Uneven layer of teeth
- Stained marks in teeth
Why Are They Called Instant Orthodontics?
Some dental practices call porcelain veneers instant orthodontics because they can offer the same result of orthodontic treatment in a short frame of time. Ideally, you would need just two visits which are generally two weeks apart (however we can accommodate a faster option in certain situations).
Nevertheless, dental veneers serve as a cosmetic solution. If there are other issues with your teeth, it is best to opt for a more thorough dental procedure.
The Treatment Process
Once the patient has their teeth cleaned, the tooth (or teeth) that will have the veneer will undergo a preparation technique. To prepare the tooth, we remove a small part of the enamel to make room for the porcelain veneer. The removal amount is about 0.5 millimeters or less. An impression is taken of the teeth which is sent to the lab wherein the porcelain veneers are customized and fabricated so as to fit seamlessly in the preparation.
